Music in Second Life

Second Life is a 3D virtual world where residents develop a personna, explore, build a network of friends, and indeed create for themselves a Second Life. There are many activities in SL, and attending live musical performances is one of the more popular. Musicians from all over the Real World perform daily at the many In World venues.

This presents a fun opportunity for musicians to gain international exposure, build a fan base, and perform before a diverse audience. Audiences in SL typically range in size from 20 to 40 people.

The following raw, unedited video clip is of OhMy Kidd and a couple other musicians performing at Lacey's Place during the recent Jamm for Genes event, an Australian charity. Live performers from all over Second Life donated their time and all earnings to the charity over a 3 day weekend in early August. About AUS$2000 was raised for the Children's Medical Research Institute. The following is an excerpt from the concert.

(Note: We are developing our video recording capabilities in SL. In the next few videos we have added the 3DConnexion Space Navigator and SL Flycam giving us a tremendous increase in flexibility to camera movement. Our next step is to improve the motion smoothness when panning by upgrading our system with more processing power.)

Grif Bamaisin and ReyRey Clawtooth perform at The Greenhouse.
